His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has conveyed a message of heartfelt condolences to the Prime Minister of Malaysia, His Excellency Anwar Ibrahim, following the passing of His Excellency Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, the former Prime Minister of Malaysia.

In his message, President Dr Muizzu expressed profound sorrow at the loss, recognising the late Abdullah Ahmad Badawi as a distinguished statesman who dedicated much of his life to public service and the advancement of his nation. He acknowledged the former Prime Minister’s steadfast commitment to promoting moderation, national unity, and good governance, along with his significant contributions to Malaysia’s economic development.

The President also conveyed the solidarity of the Government and people of the Maldives with the people of Malaysia during this time of mourning. He extended sincere sympathies to the Government and people of Malaysia, particularly to the family of the late former Prime Minister.

Abdullah Ahmad Badawi served as Malaysia’s fifth Prime Minister from 2003 to 2009. His leadership focused on progressive Islamic values, economic growth, and national cohesion.
