President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has pledged to commence land reclamation of Hulhudheli island by July of this year, seeking to reclaim the most land possible from the island's lagoon. He made this announcement during his ongoing tour of South Nilandhe Atoll while meeting with residents of Hulhudheli.
In his address, the President said land conservation initiatives would also be carried out alongside the land reclamation. The project will commence in July this year and continue at an accelerated pace until completion.
He also pledged to begin construction of a new building for the island's school in May, addressing students' space constraints. The President further committed to establishing a full-fledged health centre in Hulhudheli, emphasising improvements to infrastructure facilities and technical knowledge.
Addressing the needs of local fishermen, President Dr Muizzu revealed that construction of an ice plant will commence in the third quarter. He also announced that Hulhudheli would be among the islands receiving fish aggregating devices (FAD) required for sports fishing.
During the ceremony, an agreement for the development of the Waste Management Centre was signed. President Dr Muizzu noted that this fulfilled a Presidential pledge, adding that the centre would be fully operational within four months.
The President also highlighted that with the commencement of ATM services on the island, South Nilandhe becomes the first atoll to offer ATM services across all its inhabited islands.
