President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that harbour breakwater modifications and land reclamation work in Ban'didhoo will begin no later than next year.

He made this announcement while meeting with Ban'didhoo residents during his ongoing tour of South Nilandhe Atoll.

During his meeting with Ban'didhoo residents, the President addressed the island's pressing space constraints. He called on the Island Council to revise their land use plan, particularly focusing on the relocation of hazardous facilities such as fibre workshops and waste management sites away from residential areas. The Administration has pledged to support the implementation of these changes once the Council completes their review.

Responding to requests from local fishermen and vessel owners, the President confirmed that the harbour breakwater will be modified and expanded. He emphasised that this infrastructure investment, while substantial, represents a crucial long-term investment in Ban'didhoo's future. The Government has also promised comprehensive support to strengthen the island's fishing industry and other economic sectors.

The development plans also include several additional initiatives. New developments for Ban'didhoo School and Health Centre are scheduled for this year, while previously suspended projects will resume within approximately one month, including the fitness and recreation centre at the Youth Centre.

The President concluded his visit by praising Ban'didhoo's residents for their successful balance of modern development while maintaining their rich Maldivian cultural heritage.
