President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that efficiency and cost-effectiveness would be prioritised in implementing Government projects.

He made the statement whilst speaking to the residents of Maaen'boodhoo island, on his ongoing tour of South Nilandhe Atoll.

In his address, the President said his vision for national development was closely aligned with citizens' aspirations. As such, the visit to Maaen'boodhoo was to give assurance that the Administration would prioritise land reclamation for the island. He said that the project would go ahead as scheduled, once the EIA is approved, adding that once completed, the island will have 30 hectares of additional land. Out of these 30 hectares, he said, two hectares would be reclaimed separately from the main island, as per the wishes of the citizens.

"Our concept is not to repeat the same processes. Previously, projects were run with one company constructing the sub-base, another company laying the turf, another installing the lights, another constructing the rostrum. We will not repeat that. We plan ahead, utilise Government companies, to buy fences, lights, and other items in bulk for football stadiums, futsal grounds, and netball grounds, allowing us to bring those items in the most cost-effective manner," he said.

Referring to the developmental projects, the President gave assurance that, as he had indicated in the Presidential Address, projects on all islands are to resume in February and March. The President further said that during the Presidential election, he made two pledges for the island. He said the pledges of land reclamation and development of sports facilities will proceed ahead, as well as projects for education and health sector development.

President Dr Muizzu stressed that while work on the health centre extension had started, the extension was only limited to an administrative wing, and it did not fully address the needs of the island. He said that resources and space were pressing needs for the centre, assuring these would be addressed. The President further stressed that with the resumption of developmental projects, Maaen'boodhoo football grounds would be upgraded, as well as the creation of a volleyball court and fitness recreation centre.

The President reiterated his pledge of creating fully equipped fitness recreation centres, outdoor gyms, and children's parks in inhabited islands, adding that Maaen'boodhoo was not an exception to this pledge. He also said that quality of life would be significantly improved, with the expansion of RTL ferry service across the nation, which is to be fully implemented by the end of this year. He further said that holistic solutions would be implemented to address power supply issues. As such, he revealed that brand new generating sets have been brought in to remedy the issue and will be implemented before the start of the month of Ramadan.
