President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has expressed his appreciation for Councils taking initiative on island development and has commended Vaadhoo Island Council for their efforts to develop the island.

He made commendation and appealed for Councils to take initiative, in the meeting held with the Council, Women’s Development Committee and senior figures at institutions of Vaadhoo island as part of his ongoing tour of North Maalhosmadulu atoll.

The Council members briefed the President on the current initiatives being carried out in the island. The members also the ongoing renewable energy project on the island, adding that the project needed to be completed. They further noted the issue of erosion, health centre, lack of sport and recreation facilities, as well as harbour limitations as pressing issues for the island.

The President committed to finding solutions for these challenges, specifically stating that renewable energy is a core pledge of the Administration. He said that once completed, the solar project in Vaadhoo would provide a sustainable solution for electricity needs for the island.

The Ministers accompanying the President provided updates on ongoing development projects on the island.
