President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the Government aims to conclude the inquiry into issues regarding the 4,000 flats and expressed confidence in announcing the permanent list of beneficiaries before Ramadan 1446.

He made these remarks during a media interview on his visit to GA. Dhevvadhoo today, as part of his ongoing tour of several islands in Huvadhoo Atoll.

The President stated that while the housing shortage is one of the most pressing concerns facing our nation today, efforts are underway to ensure housing for all citizens, as he promised during the Presidential election. He clarified that while there is no intention to revoke any issued flats and housing plots, any fraudulently attained gains would be an exception. He added that any flats and housing plots cleared of this by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) would be issued to its rightful beneficiary.

While the Government prioritises the implementation of housing projects in this year’s budget, the President reiterated that announcements would be made in the remaining days of this month to find contractors to execute the promised housing units in the islands. He added that contractors would be sought regionally, with several atolls combined, contributing to additional cost reduction. He further revealed that some projects would be announced through contractor financing means, and projects would be operationalised as contracts are finalised.

In this regard, the President highlighted the Hiyaavehi financing scheme as the most affordable housing loan scheme under Islamic financing. He reiterated that the completion of the housing projects would resolve housing shortages across the nation.

The President expressed confidence in the ability to undertake and complete these housing projects this year and in 2026, effectively producing tangible results.
