President His Excellency Dr Mohamed Muizzu has sent a message on the occasion of the 40th South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Charter Day.
In his message, the President extended greetings to the Secretary-General, the Secretariat, affiliated institutions of the SAARC, and the people of South Asia.
He stated that SAARC, since its inception, has championed the cause of improving the lives of South Asians. He took note of the principles and values enshrined in the SAARC Charter, aimed at fostering peace and prosperity in the region. The President called for reinvigorating the commitment to addressing critical issues such as climate change, public health, and economic inequality. He further emphasised the importance of prioritising sustainable development, innovation, resilient infrastructure, and connectivity.
Concluding his message, the President reaffirmed the Maldives’ commitment to building a dynamic and more inclusive SAARC, dedicated to fulfilling shared aspirations and promoting a brighter, prosperous future for the people of South Asia.
The SAARC Charter Day is celebrated every year on December 8.
