President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has met with the North Ari Atoll Council and deliberated on the developmental needs of the Atoll. The meeting was held on Sunday afternoon at the Council Secretariat.
At the meeting, Atoll Council members requested the establishment of Passport and National Identity Card services in Atoll. They further requested for the inclusion of lagoons under the Council jurisdiction so as to gain economic benefits as well as Government support for economic activities. The participants also deliberated on ways to strengthen the decentralised system of governance.
Addressing the meeting, President Dr Muizzu gave his assurance that the Atoll will not be neglected, noting that the airport project for the Atoll is a pivotal one. He added that all atolls will receive Passport and National Identity Card services in the coming year. The President further reiterated his pledge of allocating a percentage of tourism tax revenues to Councils, noting that this will increase revenues to the Councils.
