President His Excellency Dr Mohamed Muizzu emphasised that the Maldives will strengthen bilateral ties with other nations without compromising its independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. He made this statement during a meeting with Maldivian citizens living in Bangalore, India, as part of his ongoing state visit.
First Lady Madam Sajidha Mohamed also attended the event.
President Dr Muizzu reiterated that his policies prioritise the Maldives and its citizens, and that he is open to partnering with any nation that respects this principle. He emphasised that safeguarding this priority will remain his primary focus.
Reflecting on the longstanding diplomatic and personal ties between the Maldives and India, President Dr Muizzu highlighted their deep-rooted relationship, noting that the two countries will celebrate 60 years of diplomatic relations next year. He acknowledged India as a steadfast partner and a reliable first responder during times of need, pointing to a history of mutual support.
"This is a fact. India is our closest neighbour. Our approach is to develop and sustain this relationship for the benefit of the nation and its citizens," President Dr Muizzu said.
He described his state visit to India as highly successful, noting that the administration had achieved all its objectives. He added that significant projects and initiatives, which will have a positive impact on the Maldives and its people, were agreed upon and launched during the visit.
