The President’s Office has held a retreat to discuss Public Private Partnerships.

Political appointees and officials from state owned companies; companies with government shares; banks operating in the Maldives; Maldives Monetary Authority; and; Anti Corruption Board participated in today’s retreat.

Delivering his opening remarks, Minister of Civil Aviation and Communication Mr Mahmood Razi noted that the people wanted quality services at reasonable prices. The way to deliver this, he said, was through enhanced cooperation between the government and the private sector.

Information were given on various related areas including, ways of establishing a system of cooperation between the government and the private sector; the benefits of such a system; and, on privatisation of public services.

Also, the Managing Director of the Maldives Water and Sewerage Company shared with the participants, the company’s privatisation experience.

Group discussions were also held on the benefits and challenges of joint cooperation with the government and the private sector in providing public services. The participants also discussed on possible ways to overcome the identified challenges.
