The Ambassador of Republic of Türkiye to the Maldives, His Excellency Semih Lutfu Turgut, presented his Letters of Credence to the President, His Excellency Dr Mohamed Muizzu, at a ceremony held this morning at the President's Office.

The Ambassador was escorted to the President's Office from the Republic Square in a cultural procession "Haiykolhu" with MNDF Drum and Trumpet Band.

The Ambassador presented his Letters of Credence to the President, who accepted it and welcomed him as Ambassador of Türkiye to the Maldives.

Following the presentation, the President and Ambassador discussed strengthening cooperation between the two countries, especially in areas of security cooperation, economic and trade cooperation and in higher education sector.

President highlighted on his first Official Visit to Türkiye last November, and expressed gratitude to President of Türkiye, His Excellency Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the Government of Türkiye for the strengthening of bilateral relations between the countries, and the generous assistance the Government has received from Türkiye since.

Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and the Republic of Türkiye were established on May 28, 1979.

The Ambassador is accredited to the Maldives as a non-resident Ambassador, and resides in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
