First Lady Madam Sajidha Mohamed emphasised raising awareness about diabetes should begin in schools. She made the remarks while speaking at the 24th Anniversary ceremony of the Diabetes Society of the Maldives.

At the ceremony, the First Lady highlighted the high prevalence of diabetes in the Maldives, noting that it is the most common non-communicable disease in the country. She stated that one out of every ten individuals in the country has type 2 diabetes.

Additionally, the First Lady underscored three steps that individuals can take to prevent diabetes. These steps include being aware of the condition, making lifestyle changes based on the available information, seeking treatment if diabetes is present, and taking care of one's health.

During the ceremony, the First Lady unveiled a book of statistics based on data from the national diabetes screening programme.
