President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has declared Thursday, June 20, a Government holiday. The announcement was made in a directive issued by the President's Office today.

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs made changes to the calendar, declaring the commencement of Dhul Hijjah on June 7, 2024, following the sighting of the crescent moon for the month of Dhul Hijjah 1445.

As a result, Arafat Day falls on Saturday, June 15, 2024, and Eid al-Adha on Sunday, June 16, 2024. The Government has also previously designated June 17, 18, and 19 as holidays for Eid al-Adha celebrations.

The declaration of June 20 as a Government holiday aims to mitigate any potential inconvenience the public may encounter in returning from their holidays.

In line with the President’s decision, the Government will reopen on Sunday, June 23, 2024.
