President Dr Mohamed Muizzu met with the members of the Lhaimagu Island Council and the Women's Development Committee (WDC). The meeting was held at the Secretariat of the North Miladhunmadulu Atoll Council.
During the meeting, the Council apprised the President of the key issues required for the development of the island. The Council noted the shoaling of the harbour as one of the most important issues and requested the Administration seek an urgent solution to the problem. In this regard, the members emphasised the residents’ suggestions for enhancing the harbour's rehabilitation.
The Council further emphasised the need to develop a robust waste management system and protect the island's shore from erosion. They also relayed the need to advance sports and improve healthcare services.
Speaking at the meeting, the Lhaimagu WDC highlighted the challenges faced by the budgetary allocation.
In response, the President stated that the Parliament would make the final decision regarding WDC allowances but that the Administration would work to ensure a favourable outcome. The President also affirmed that the Administration would thoroughly examine the concerns brought forward by the Council. Ministers present at the meeting provided updates on the Government's current initiatives regarding the issues raised by the Council.
