President Dr Mohamed Muizzu met with members of the GDh. Vaadhoo Council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) today at the Secretariat of Faresmaathoda Council.
The Council emphasised several issues, including the need to improve employment opportunities and the overall economic condition of the island. They also highlighted the need for more port space and the concerning condition and difficulty in using the roads due to potholes. The Council additionally expressed concerns about some stalled development projects and highlighted the significance of addressing these issues for the economic and social development of the island.
Speaking at the meeting, the WDC highlighted the necessity of having a specific office designated for the WDC, a swimming track, an outdoor gym, and housing units for the island.
During the meeting, the President expressed that his priority would be to utilise the island's resources to boost its economy. He emphasised that promoting agriculture and ensuring food security in the country were top priorities for the Government and that efforts to attract investment related to agriculture to the island would ensue. He additionally stated that he would focus on initiating stalled projects and prioritise the issues raised by the Council.
A high-level government delegation accompanies President Dr Muizzu on this tour to Addu City, Fuvahmulah City, and the North and South Huvadhu Atolls.
