The Chinese Ambassador, Ms Yang Xiuping has paid a courtesy call on President Nasheed this morning.
The President spoke on China’s major contributions over the years towards developmental projects in the Maldives, and pointed out the housing schemes carried out in the Maldives under Chinese assistance was an extremely important contribution. The President also thanked the Government and the people of China for the generous assistance that the country had extended to the Maldives.
The President also briefed the Ambassador on the economic policy of the government and the priority areas under this policy.
Ambassador Xiuping noted that the Chinese Government attached great importance to assisting friendly countries in the region such as the Maldives, and assured the President that China would continue to extend all possible support and assistance to future developmental endeavours in the Maldives.
