President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the government will prioritise the citizens’ concerns during his visit to Vandhoo in Kolhumadulu Atoll.

In his speech, the President urged all Island Council members to collaborate with government authorities to identify and prioritise urgent needs for the current year within two weeks. He asserted that the government would initiate its implementation upon the framework’s establishment.

He noted that one of the most vital things for Vandhoo was the reclamation project to solve the erosion. Therefore, the government will take up the project as a priority project, he said. He also asked the council to list developmental issues by order of significance. He promised that the island's development projects would reflect the wishes of its people.

In his speech, the President reiterated, urging the councils to capitalise on the opportunity provided by the Government to allocate jurisdiction for the islands for economic activities. According to the regulations, an island can serve the collective interests of the community, encompassing individuals and enterprises, thereby enabling the council to augment its revenue.
