Vice President H.E. Hussain Mohamed Latheef met with H.E. Karien van Gennip, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Social Affairs and Employment of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, on Tuesday.

At the meeting, the Vice President and the Deputy Prime Minister discussed avenues to strengthen the existing relations between the two countries. They also discussed ways in easing Schengen visa facilitations for Maldivian travelers, and cooperation in the fields of tourism, trade and fisheries.

The Vice President and the Deputy Prime Minister additionally discussed ways to expand training and higher education opportunities for Maldivian youth. The Dutch Deputy Prime Minister conveyed that Dutch private-sector enterprises are interested in investing in the Maldives.

The Vice President and the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Social Affairs and Employment concluded their meeting by expressing hope for working together and fortifying the bilateral ties between the two countries.

The Maldives and the Netherlands established diplomatic relations on 03 September 1979.
