The Minister of National Education of the Republic of Türkiye, H.E. Yusuf Tekin, paid a courtesy call on H.E. President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on Tuesday. The meeting was held at the Presidential Guesthouse in Ankara.

During the call, the Turkish Minister of National Education acknowledged the close bilateral ties between the two countries and discussed future collaboration in higher education between Türkiye and the Maldives.

President Dr Muizzu highlighted Türkiye as an excellent avenue for affordable and high-quality higher education for Maldivians. The President also conversed on the potential expansion of short-term training programs and scholarships for Maldivian students pursuing higher education in Turkish universities.

He went on to emphasise the importance of additional training for educators, especially those interacting with students with complex learning requirements and unique needs. He underscored that the Maldives is seeking to increase training in key areas including earth sciences, medicine, child care, therapy, and rehabilitation.

Concluding the call, President Dr Muizzu and the Turkish Minister of National Education reiterated their commitment to further strengthen the long-standing friendship between both countries. Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Türkiye were established on May 28, 1979.

President Dr Muizzu is currently on an official visit to Türkiye at the invitation of the Turkish President. First Lady Sajidha Mohamed and a high-level Maldivian delegation comprising senior government officials are accompanying the President on the visit.
