President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih inaugurated newly completed infrastructure projects on Nellaidhoo Island in Haa Dhaalu Atoll on Sunday. These projects, part of his ongoing tour of the atoll, include an upgraded harbour, a new powerhouse, and a coastal protection project.
The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) completed the coastal protection and harbour upgrading projects. The harbour upgrading project included the development of 164 metres of breakwater, 224 metres of quay wall, 125 metres of groynes, and other improvements. The coastal protection project involved the installation of an 873-metre revetment and the development of a 1,500-cubic-meter swimming area.
The newly constructed powerhouse on Nellaidhoo Island has a power generation capacity of 980 kilowatts, representing a significant advancement in providing reliable and efficient power. Its strategic location, away from residential areas, minimises disturbances for the island's residents. The facility is spacious and modern, capable of accommodating many personnel.
Under President Solih's leadership, the administration has achieved significant strides towards equitable development across all inhabited islands in the Maldives. This includes enhancing the quality of life for citizens and empowering them to lead dignified lives. During his visits to various islands, President Solih is officially inaugurating the completion of numerous projects and services.
