President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and First Lady Fazna Ahmed hosted the official Independence Day reception on Tuesday at the Islamic Centre courtyard. They extended warm greetings to those in attendance on the eve of the Maldives' 58th anniversary of independence.
Vice President Faisal Naseem also attended the reception, along with high-ranking government officials, state dignitaries, Members of Parliament, Ministers from previous administrations, senior members of the judiciary and independent institutions, members of various commissions, and political appointees.
The event was attended by diverse individuals, including youth, women, individuals with special needs, prominent sports personalities, and students from universities, colleges, and schools. Foreign dignitaries were also present at the event.
The Maldives achieved independence on July 26, 1965.
