Vice President Faisal Naseem attended on Wednesday the opening ceremony of the Five Nations Championship 2023 basketball tournament, the first international basketball tournament held in the Maldives this year. The tournament will take place at the Maldives Centre for Social Education (MCSE) indoor hall from June 14 to 22, 2023.
During the ceremony, the Vice President met with the Maldives and Bangladeshi basketball teams and watched their game. The Maldives team had trained in Bengaluru, India, to prepare for the competition. Nepal, Bhutan, and Pakistan are also participating in the tournament.
This administration has been working to promote the Maldives as a sports destination and provide opportunities for local athletes to compete against international teams. The tournament is part of these efforts, and the administration plans to host other international sporting events in the Maldives to enable local athletes to compete and advance at the international level. This will be the country's third international basketball tournament during this administration.
