President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih met on Thursday with Christian von Stetten, the Honorary Consul General, and Andreas Peter Witte, the Honorary Consul of the Maldives in Germany. Mr Stetten and Mr Witte paid a courtesy call on President Solih during his ongoing visit to Germany.
At the meeting, President Solih extended his appreciation to Mr Stetten and Mr Witte for their efforts to promote the Maldives and foster diplomatic connections between the two countries. They also discussed ways to strengthen relations between the two countries further.
Expressing eagerness to explore possible opportunities to increase trade and investments between the two countries, President Solih requested Mr Stetten and Mr Witte lobby through their connections to waive the 24% tariff imposed on Maldivian fisheries exports.
President Solih, Mr Stetten, and Mr Witte concluded their meeting by reaffirming their commitment to continue working together for the common welfare of the citizens of both countries. The Maldives established diplomatic relations with Germany on July 5, 1966.
