President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Wednesday concluded the three-day official visit to four islands of Haa Alifu and Haa Dhaalu Atoll and returned to Malé City.

The President visited the islands of Naivaadhoo Island and Finey Island in Haa Dhaalu Atoll and then visited Utheemu Island and Dhidhdhoo Island in Haa Alifu Atoll.

First Lady Fazna Ahmed joined the President on Utheemu Island to take part in the National Day celebrations. Speaking at the official ceremony held to mark the National Day, the President said that ensuring ease of livelihoods and a ‘Jazeera’ lifestyle for all citizens without bias is the best way to honour the nation. The residents of Utheemu Island also hosted a traditional banquet in honour of the President and the First Lady.

During the visit, the President also attended the official launch of Zone 1 of the Raajje Transport Link (RTL) ferry service. At the ceremony, the President emphasised that restoring the wealth and autonomy of the islands begins with the commencement of the RTL service. The President also shed light on the administration’s effort to bring immense development to the Bodu-Thiladhunmathi region through its large-scale infrastructure development projects, such as the Hanimaadhoo International Airport expansion project. The President inaugurated some of the infrastructural development projects that had been completed in Haa Alifu and Haa Dhaalu atolls, including the installation of water networks and sewerage systems.

During his visit, the President met with the Island Councils and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) members. The President also visited government offices on these islands and enquired about the services and their needs.

The President was accompanied by cabinet ministers and senior government officials during this visit.
