The Spokesperson at the President’s Office, Miuvaan Mohamed on Thursday afternoon updated the media on the latest progress of the government’s activities, at a press conference held at the President’s Office.
At today’s press conference, the Spokesperson highlighted the following: the outcomes of the Viavathi Raajje Conference held earlier this week in Gan Island of Laamu Atoll; key points from the President’s remarks at the official function held to mark the 130th anniversary of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) on Tuesday; and the remarks at the first annual "Maldives Broadcast Award 2022" held on Wednesday night.
Miuvaan also emphasised that the President had appealed for public support in gathering information for the ongoing Census 2022. He also noted that the President decided that the official receptions for National Farmers' Day and World Food Day would be held on Kaashidhoo Island in Kaafu Atoll this year and that the 42nd National Fishermen’s Day would be celebrated on Faresmaathodaa Island in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, based on the Cabinet’s recommendation. He also stated that this year's National Day would be celebrated on Utheemu Island in Haa Alifu Atoll and that the National Awards ceremony would be held on October 20.
Briefing the media on upcoming events of the government, the Spokesperson said that the President would depart for the United Kingdom on Friday to attend the funeral of Her Majesty the late Queen Elizabeth II. He also noted that Minister of Foreign Affairs and State Dignitary, O.D.R.I. Abdulla Shahid would be leading the Maldivian delegation in the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) held in New York City, United States.
Spokesperson Miuvaan also answered questions from journalists and clarified various public interest issues at today’s press conference.
