President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Thursday conferred awards and certificates to the top achievers of the 2020–2021 higher secondary and secondary examinations. On the second night of the "Top Achievers' Award 2020-2021" ceremony in Dharubaaruge, the President presented awards and certificates to 17 students; three attained first place in the higher secondary examinations, and 14 others won first place in the secondary examinations.
The President also handed out awards and certificates to 18 top achievers who scored in first place in the world's top 10 in individual subjects. First Lady Fazna Ahmed and Vice President Faisal Naseem attended the event, with the First Lady presenting awards to 29 students who attained second place in the examinations. The Vice President handed over accolades to the students who won third place.
Maldivian students broke previous records in the 2020-2021 higher secondary and secondary examinations. 5,955 students sat the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and secondary examinations in the academic year, while another 2,641 students took the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and higher secondary examinations.
757 students in the secondary examinations were included in the national top 10 rankings, while 13 were in the world's top 10 for individual subject achievements. Six students won the High Achievement Award.
In the higher secondary examinations, 348 students were placed in the national top 10, and 41 students won places in the world's top 10 for individual subject achievements.
