Vice President Faisal Naseem, on Thursday morning, returned to the Maldives after concluding an official visit to New York City, United States of America. His spouse, Aishath Shamsadha, and a high-level delegation accompanied him on the visit.

In New York, Vice President Faisal attended the high-level thematic debate convened by the United Nations’ President of the General Assembly (UNPGA) on the theme "Putting sustainable and resilient tourism at the heart of an inclusive recovery." Delivering a statement at the debate, he stated that the astute leadership of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration, coupled with the steadfast support of the private sector, paved the road to recovery for the Maldives’ tourism sector from the downturn caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The UNPGA convened the debate in collaboration with the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

The Vice President also paid a courtesy call on the President of the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNPGA), Abdulla Shahid, and met with the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General H. E. Antonio Guterres during the visit.
