President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Friday evening met with the members of the Island Council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) of Hinnavaru Island in the Lhaviyani Atoll. The meeting was held at the youth center on the island.
The council members acknowledged the numerous developmental projects initiated by the administration and shared with the President their concerns and most pertinent needs. They proposed some changes to the harbour development plans and highlighted the need for improving banking services, modernising and revamping school buildings and strengthening human resources in the education sector.
Members of the WDC shared with the President their efforts in socio-economic development and highlighted the need for a dedicated office building. They also discussed with the President arrangements for expectant mothers to travel to the Lhaviyani Atoll Hospital. President Solih and his delegation briefed the members with the latest updates on the developmental projects underway on the island. He also thanked the members for the exuberant welcome he received.
Afterwards, President Solih met with the residents of the island where he discussed developmental plans for the island. He said the hospital project is in the tender stages and spoke about expanding the existing harbour and building a new one. Other projects planned for the island include road development, building a university campus and 100 housing units, in addition to improving the electricity network.
Highlighting that funds had been earmarked in the budget to develop a new building for the Island Council, President Solih assured that arrangements would be made to improve banking services. He went on to emphasise the administration’s commitment to listen to the people and prioritise their needs.
President Solih would also be visiting Felivaru, Naifaru, Olhuvelifushi and Kurendhoo during his visit to the Lhaviyani Atoll. The President is accompanied by ministers and government officials.
