Vice President has stated that the most precious reward earned by any living soul on earth is to be enlightened onto the path of Islam and that we must double down our efforts to instil the Islamic faith in the hearts of youngsters as long as we remain a 100 per cent Muslim nation. He made the statement while speaking at the special ceremony held this evening at the Islamic Centre to commemorate the day the Maldives embraced Islam.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice President stated that as we celebrate such occasions, we must contemplate on the teachings of Islam and work towards prosperity for our future and the hereafter. Islam teaches us values and ethics to live by, he said, adding that we must strengthen our familial bonds while respecting each other, do good deeds, refrain from bad habits and extend assistance to whoever is in need.

Highlighting that we live in a dynamic world, the Vice President said that as we live in an ever more interconnected world, we must be more cautious of the negative influences from foreign cultures. He called upon parents to be more vigilant in the upbringing of their children and to learn lessons from everyday life.

A special prayer was recited at today’s ceremony by Sheikh Nasrullah Ali. The Vice President, members of the Cabinet and other senior government officials attended the ceremony.

The Maldives commemorates the day the nation embraced Islam on the 2nd of Rabiʽ al-Akhir every year on the Islamic Calendar.
