H.E President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has participated in the Roundtable Discussion on Island Climate Priorities on the margins of the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26).
Deliberations at the roundtable discussion focussed on delivering key messages such as the alignment to 1.5 Degree Celsius target, climate financing, loss and damage as well as the urgency of support needed for adaptation. Participants expressed renewed hope, as voices of small distant islands are no longer lone voices of some small distant islands, having become one. Discussions also focussed on the expected deliverables of COP26.
The President was accompanied at the Roundtable Discussion on Understanding Island Climate by the Special Envoy for Climate Change, the President's Office, H.E Sabra Ibrahim Noordeen.
The Maldives plays a key role in the international arena advocating for action on climate change as well as encouraging small island nations to present unique challenges faced by Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in the international arena.
