President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has met with the members of the Dhigurah Island Council of South Ari Atoll. The councillor’s stated that they would work with the locals in carrying out minor projects and would similarly extend their full support to the government in carrying out large-scale developmental plans on the island.

Dhigurah Island Council raised the priorities and concerns shared by the island’s residents. As the island is a budding hub for local tourism, they highlighted difficulties they face due to lack of space at the local harbour, lack of proper water and sewerage facilities, scarcity of school infrastructure and concerns regarding beach erosion.

President Solih shared the latest updates of ongoing and planned developmental projects at Dhigurah Island. In response to the concerns raised by the councillors, the President stated that the harbour development project would be budgeted for next year and that a study was already underway in regards to the beach protection project.

Noting that upgrading education infrastructure is one of his key pledges, the President stated that the government had plans to develop a three-story school building in 2022. President Solih also stated that the government would work on speeding up the water and sewerage project. He affirmed that he would speak with the proper government agencies to seek solutions for the problems and difficulties raised by the members of the island council.
