President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih today spoke with the family of the late Hussain Abdulla (Maroshi Hussain Kaleyfaanu) via telephone, to extend his condolences and express his profound sadness upon hearing the news of his passing. The late Hussain Abdulla, owner and cofounder of the local business chain, MHA Pvt Ltd, had been a prominent community leader, businessman and philanthropist. He was also a recipient of the Order of the Dignified Rule of Kalaafaanu.

The President praised Hussain Abdulla for his many contributions to the Maldives’ economy and society, noting that they will have a long lasting positive impact. Acknowledging the family’s loss, he expressed his sympathy towards them in their time of grief, and offered his prayers that Allah (SWT) grant Janna to their beloved family member.

During his lifetime, Hussain Abdulla, a native of Sh. Maroshi, had contributed prolifically to the community of Maroshi, where he once served as Island Chief. On 11th November 1979, Hussian Abdulla, along with three teachers, founded Al Madharusathun Munawwara, a school providing free education services to the island's residents; after 27 years of operating the school in the premises of his own house, he personally financed the construction of a new school building.

Hussain Abdulla was also renowned for his philanthropy nationwide. He contributed to several projects advancing the country’s educational, social and infrastructural development, notably funding the construction of several mosques throughout Shaviyani Atoll. He also funded numerous students who wished to study in universities abroad

Recognizing his numerous services to the country, the Government of Maldives had honoured Hussain Abdulla with several national awards. In 1992 the Government presented him with the National Award of Recognition; thirteen years later, in 2005, he was awarded the National Award of Honour; and in 2011 the Government conferred upon him the Order of the Dignified Rule of Kalaafaanu.
