President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has this afternoon met the officials and athletes who represented the Maldives at the South Asian Games 2019. The meeting, held at the President’s Office, was attended by the women’s football and basketball teams and officials.

Speaking to the athletes, President Solih admired the determination and dedication of the teams and praised them for their achievements in the international sporting event. Encouraging the sportspersons to excel further, the President stressed that their accomplishments were a point of pride for the nation.

President Solih affirmed the Administration’s commitment to improving sports and support athletes in striving for more achievements. In this regard, the President assured that the Administration would not neglect other sports at the cost of developing another.

At the meeting, Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment Ahmed Mahloof shared the latest updates on the efforts by the Administration to further develop sports. The women’s football and basketball teams returned home from the 13th South Asian Games with bronze medals.
