President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has this afternoon met with the Councillors of Olhuvelifushi Island of Lhaviyani Atoll. During the meeting, the Councillors shared the concerns of the residents with the President.

In this regard, the Councillors noted difficulties in using the island’s harbour, and with an increased demand for medical services from nearby tourist resorts and other islands, the need to enhance the services provided at the Health Centre. The Councillors also highlighted concerns related to providing electricity services, requirements of the school, and youth and sports development. They further shared details of the newly drawn up land-use plan of the island with the President.

At the meeting, President Solih spoke about the increased benefits and responsibilities of local councils with the Administration’s proposed amendments to the Decentralisation Act and urged the Councillors to make the best use of their resources. The President further affirmed that the Administration would work with line ministries and relevant stakeholders to address the concerns raised by the Councillors.
