Vice President Faisal Naseem has this morning met with the Councillors of Magoodhoo Island of North Nilandhe Atoll. Discussions at the meeting, held at the President’s Office, were focused on the developmental plans for Magoodhoo and challenges faced by its residents.

At the meeting, the Councillors shared concerns related to proper waste management and improving healthcare services. Highlighting that Magoodhoo is home to an outpost of Italy-based University of Milano-Bicocca, the Councillors noted the challenges in providing exceptional services to visiting research students. They further shed light on the developmental needs of the island and its 800 residents, especially in the education sector and through infrastructure projects.

Speaking with the Councillors, the Vice President stated that the Administration would soon reveal future plans for all islands with the National Development Plan. He also said that the Administration would work with relevant stakeholders to address the concerns raised by the Councillors.

The Vice President further explained that the Administration’s proposed amendments to the Decentralisation Act outlines added duties and responsibilities for local councils and advised the Councillors to work in earnest and serve their constituents to the best of their efforts.
