President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has appointed Fuwad Thowfeek as a member of the Elections Commission (EC), and Colonel (Retired) Ahmed Jihaad as a member of the National Integrity Commission (NIC). The Letters of Appointment were presented to the two appointees at a ceremony held this morning at the President’s Office.

At the ceremony, Fuwad Thowfeek took his Oath of Office in the presence of Supreme Court Justice Uz Mahaz Ali Zahir. Mr Thowfeek earlier served in EC as a member from September 2008 to September 2009, following which he served as the Chairman of the Commission till March 2014. Mr Thowfeek joined public service in February 1973 and has since served extensively in the Ministry of National Planning and Development—he last served as the Assistant Director-General up until July 2007.

The President’s appointment to the NIC, Colonel (Retired) Ahmed Jihaad, is a decorated serviceman in the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF). He joined the military service in 1982 and served in various ranks till 2013. His last posting was as the Deputy Search Coordinator at the Coastguard Maritime Rescue Coordinating Centre.
