President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has discussed developmental plans with Faadhippolhu Atoll Council during a meeting held this afternoon at the President’s Office.
Some of the concerns raised by the Councillors during the meeting include those related to the fisher community; usage of unsustainable bait fishing techniques by fishers from other atolls are affecting bait fishery in the region. In this regard, the Councillors shared information about their efforts to declare some areas of the atoll as protected areas.
Discussions at the meeting were also focused on the challenges faced by the islands with regard to proper waste management and ways to resolve them. The Councillors also highlighted that the funds earmarked in the State Budget for 2020 would allow for a large number of developmental projects in the atoll.
Speaking during the meeting, President Solih conveyed his confidence that the Councillors would work in the best interest of the people of the atoll. Highlighting the concerns raised, the President said that the issues would be discussed with the relevant ministries and addressed swiftly.
