President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has today appointed two new Judges to the Supreme Court of the Maldives.
The President presented the letters of appointment to Dr Azmiralda Zahir and Uza Aisha Shujoon Mohamed today at a ceremony held at the President's Office.

The President has made this appointment under the powers vested in him under article 148 (a) of the Maldivian Constitution, authorizing the President to appoint judges to the Supreme Court after consulting the JSC and with the approval of the majority of the People's Majlis present and voting.

Dr Azmiralda Zahir and Uza Aisha Shujoon Mohamed took the oath to become Supreme Court Judges today at the President's office, with the oath administered by Maldives' Chief Justice Dr Ahmed Abdullah Didi

President Solih ratified the 3rd amendment to the Judicature Act (Act No. 22/2010), on 23rd July 2019, paving the way to increase the number of Judges residing on the Supreme Court bench from five, to seven.
