The Regional Director of the World Health Organization (WHO) for South East Asia, Dr Poonam Khethrapal Singh has paid a courtesy call on Vice President Faisal Naseem. The meeting was held this morning at the President Office.
During the call, the Vice President expressed gratitude for the assistance and technical expertise provided by WHO. The Vice President also mentioned the progress made in the health sector and challenges to it. The Vice President stated the importance given by the Government of Maldives in the development of the health sector and mentioned recent improvements in the sector.
The Regional Director conveyed warm congratulations for the Maldives' achievement in eliminating diseases like Malaria and Measles and expressed the need for advocacy in preventing and raising awareness of non-communicable diseases in the Maldives. The Regional Director also assured the Vice President that WHO will continue to provide technical and other needed support to improve the health sector in the Maldives.
