President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has met with members of the Gaafu Dhaalhu Thinadhoo island council and senior officials and high ranking members of the island's institutions. The meetings took place at the Thinadhoo Council headquarters this evening.
During the meeting, the Councillors shared some of the most urgent and pertinent issues being faced by their constituents, as well as requirements and hindrances for the future development of the island. Some of the issues mentioned included the renovation of the ice-plant jetty, electricity and sewerage problems, as well as infrastructural issues in the island hospital and council building. The Councillors also shared their concerns regarding the alarming rate of soil erosion at the beach, inland flooding during torrential seasons and some residual concerns regarding completed developmental projects.
The President noted the concerns and updated the Councillors regarding new projects approved by his administration which may address some of the issues raised, and stated that their concerns will be shared with the relevant line ministries to find appropriate solutions.
Following the meeting with the Councillors, the President met with high-ranking officials from different institutions at G. Dh Thinadhoo. The officials also shared their concerns with the President, as well as the concerns of residents of the island.
Speaking at the meeting, the President noted that a high amount of the raised concerns will be solved with the projects budgeted for the region, and shared updated information regarding the projects with the officials.
