President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has participated in a Tree Planting Campaign this morning, during his current visit to South Huvadhu Atoll Thinadhoo. The program is an effort by the island's former Councillor Saud Ali. The President showed his support for the campaign by planting a coconut palm seedling in a plot at the west of the island.
The campaign is conducted as former Councillor Saud Ali's personal endeavour to expand the greenery at Thinadhoo, help reduce the rate and effects of soil erosion and increase awareness and interest for caring about the environment in the community. Numerous participants, including children, families and special delegates visiting the island, have contributed to the program by planting some 500 seedlings of different varieties.
In addition to the President, Minister of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture Zaha Waheed also participated in the campaign by planting a coconut palm seedling.
