Vice-President Faisal Naseem has met with Senior Officials from the Ministry of Education as well as School Principals from the Greater Male’ region area this morning at the President’s Office. The meeting was held to discuss some of the pressing issues confronted by the country’s education sector.


The Principals stated that schools require more resources to meet the needs and expectations of students, and pressed for certain administrative and structural reforms that would positively affect daily functions. Further, they asked that the government review the salary scales and benefits being offered to public education officials, and to bring about necessary changes where required. Similarly, they requested they take into account some of the difficulties being experienced with teachers and education officials in terms of getting access to housing loans and schemes.


The Vice President expressed his gratitude for the hard work being done by all involved in the education sector, noting their essential role in raising a new generation of Maldivian citizens capable of positively contributing to the country’s well-being. He noted that he would do his utmost to expediently and effectively resolve all the issues raised. In turn, the Vice-President asked all Principals to take the concerns and priorities of students, parents and teachers into account while fulfilling their responsibilities.


This administration understands that education is of paramount importance and is resolved to ensure that all Maldivians have fair and affordable access to high-quality education. The administration welcomes the input of all involved parties to progress this sphere.
