President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that the government would ensure the independence and sovereignty of Maldives would be safeguarded and that the government would prioritize the development of the country in establishing deeper ties with friendly nations and well-wishers of the Maldives. The President made this remark while meeting with the Maldivian community residing in Singapore. The President and First Lady are currently on a State visit to Singapore.
Highlighting the longstanding historic relations between the Maldives and Singapore, the President noted that Singapore has been a close development partner of the Maldives and that this visit is intended to strengthen the existing bilateral ties and reinvigorate the cooperation between the two countries on a myriad of fields with the signing of two MOU’s.
Moreover, The President noted that since the first day of the current administration, the government has been working tirelessly on improving foreign relations between the Maldives and other nations. The President further reiterated that the government would not allow even an ounce of damage to the independence of the country.
Emphasizing on the work done by the government in restoring the connections with the foreign parties, President Solih shed light on the work done by the government in re-joining the commonwealth and stated that once the Maldives resumes membership of Commonwealth, all benefits and assistance being provided by the organization prior to the cease of membership would once again be received by the Maldives.
Moreover, the President highlighted that a lot of Maldivians are currently employed in technical posts in Singapore which resonates well on the country and commended them on the talent they acquired.
The President also mentioned the work carried out by the Maldivian embassy in Singapore to create an online platform to provide their services and ease the different processes for Maldivians residing in the country.
