President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has reiterated the commitment given by his administration in engaging with the international community in issues of mutual importance and to fulfill the pledges of Jazeera Raajje. He made this statement at the opening remarks at the Maldives Partnership Forum 2019 (MPF) held at Kurumba Maldives this morning, thanking all our development partners in attendance for their presence at this event. He noted that the large turnout exceeded our expectations and is indicative of the many friends we have from the world over.
Jointly led by the President’s Office, The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Finance the Maldives Partnership forum, sub-entitled ‘Investing in a Resilient and Sustainable Maldives’ is being held from June 17 to 18, to provide a platform for development collaboration. Accordingly, it will facilitate the efforts of our partners to jointly take forward the Maldives’ development agenda.
In the President’s remarks, he noted that whilst the Maldives has made many strides in global development indices over the years, the fruits of our progress have not been distributed equitably. He further noted the need to ensure Government policies are sustainable, in line with good governance and respectful of the country's natural resources and cultural heritage.
The ambitious mandate of this administration is intended to redirect our development efforts towards a more inclusive and sustainable path. Each of the sessions, which were selected to reflect the key priority areas of this Government will shine a light on how such outcomes can be achieved. The sessions are as follows: macroeconomic and fiscal performance; investing in a blue economy; ensuring social outcomes; enhancing good governance, justice and the rule of law; and partnering for development. The President gave a few remarks on the government’s policy initiatives in each of these areas, laying out his vision for the Maldivians where all can lead fulfilling and dignified lives.
