Their Excellencies President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have delivered a joint press statement at the President’s Office. In their statements, both leaders highlighted the warmth and affection that marks the relationship between our two countries.

President Solih noted that the Maldives understands that Prime Minister Modi travelling to the Maldives on his first international visit following his reelection to India’s premiership is a powerful affirmation of our friendship. That friendship, he said, stretches back much further than the establishment of formal diplomatic links, over half a century ago, highlighting the active cultural and commercial exchange that has occurred between our two countries since time immemorial. The Prime Minister reciprocated the President’s warm sentiments, further extending Eid felicitations to the President and the citizens of Maldives.

Acknowledging India’s manifold assistance towards the Maldives in several fields, greatly aiding President Solih offered his gratitude to the Indian government, highlighting the boon such assistance provides in terms of fulfilling his pledges to the Maldivian people, with regard to improving their socio-economic well-being. He further highlighted that the many memorandums of understanding that have been exchanged between the relevant institutions of our two governments will further enhance co-operation in a variety of sectors ranging from health, education and sport to cultural and commercial co-operation. 

Both leaders emphasized the ongoing cooperation between our two countries in regional affairs, in recognition of our mutual interests in the Indian Ocean Region, and affirmed the mutual resolve to always uphold and continue the historic friendship between our two countries.active cultural and commercial exchange that has occurred between our two countries since time immemorial.
