The new Ambassador of Switzerland to the Maldives, His Excellency Hanspeter Mock presented his Letter of Credence to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, this afternoon, at a ceremony held at the President’s Office.
During the call, President Solih welcomed Ambassador Mock to the Maldives and congratulated him on the commencement of his tenure. The President indicated that the Maldives attaches great importance to the cordial ties of friendship and cooperation between the Maldives and Switzerland, and hoped that these friendly relations will continue to strengthen in the days ahead.
Ambassador Mock stated that it was a privilege to be appointed as the Ambassador to the Maldives, and expressed his wish to further strengthen and diversify existing bilateral relations between the Maldives and Switzerland. The President and the Ambassador both discussed common issues of concern in the international arena such as human rights, democracy and climate change.
The President also emphasized the interest of the Maldivian Government to explore opportunities to increase trade and investment between the Maldives and Switzerland.
Ambassador Mock further commended the Maldivian Government’s first 100-day pledges stating that it is a very bold and ambitious agenda.
Concluding the call Ambassador Mock reiterated the earnest desire of the Swiss Government to provide support to the Maldives.
