Vice President Faisal Naseem has today met with the stakeholders tasked with ensuring proper safety measures are followed at construction sites. The meeting was attended by Ministry oNational Planning and Infrastructure, Maldives Police Service, Maldives National Defense Force, Malé City Council along with other relevant authorities.
At today’s meeting, the Vice President inquired about the plans for tackling the issue, and urged all authorities to fully cooperate with each other and the private sector. He pointed out that there is a lot of room for improvement, in guaranteeing a safe working environment at construction sites, and preventing tragic incidents from happening.
Members at the meeting briefed the Vice President on the current status of the ongoing works.
The meeting is subsequent to the unfortunate incident where a little girl sustained serious injuries while walking on the pavement next to a construction site in Malé on Sunday. The girl has died today.
Vice President Naseem also extended condolences to the family of the girl.
Yesterday, President Solih has instructed the respective authorities to lead a full inspection of all construction sites immediately, and take necessary actions against those in violation of the current guidelines.
