“It is with great sadness that we learnt of the death of President George Herbert Walker Bush, 41st president of the United States of America today. On behalf of the government and people of the Maldives, I offer our sympathies and condolences to the Bush family, government and people of the United States of America.”
“President Bush was an exemplary statesman whose long years of public service from naval aviator to congressman to Ambassador to the UN and subsequently Vice President and President of the United States displayed an exceptional character marked by courage, perseverance and an overwhelming sense of duty.”
“President Bush also holds a special place in the hearts of Maldivians, when he, along with former President Clinton, visited tsunami-affected communities in the Maldives in 2005 following the devastation caused by the Asian Tsunami of 2004. President Bush’s interventions were instrumental in securing United States assistance for post- Tsunami reconstruction in the Maldives.”
