President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has stated that it is the people of the Maldives who will decide our policies and choose the road for progress. He stated that this administration does not welcome foreign involvement in deciding our internal matters.

The President made this remark while speaking at the function held this morning to inaugurate the sewerage system in Milandhoo Island of North Miladhummadulu Atoll. The President is currently on a two day visit to some Islands of North Miladhummadulu Atoll.

While addressing today’s gathering, the President stated that Maldives faces different kinds of external pressures due to the system of democracy being practiced in the country, which suits our unique culture. Speaking further, the President stated that the reason why the opposition parties accuse this administration of not adapting to democratic norms was because this administration disallows any action that contradicts the country’s legal system.

Shedding light on the mega developmental projects being carried out by this administration, President Yameen noted that this administration is achieving numerous milestones in the area of development, such as the construction of the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge connecting Malé and Hulhumalé, which was previously thought to be impossible.

As part of his visit to North Miladhummadulu Atoll, President Yameen attended the ceremony to mark the completion of beach protection project in Bileffahi Island and inaugurated the harbour of Kanditheemu Island. The President also attended the function held last evening to mark the completion of the airport land reclamation project, and inauguration of the runway development project in Funadhoo Island of North Miladhummadulu Atoll.
