The new Non-Resident Ambassador of Nigeria to the Maldives, His Excellency Major General (Rtd) Ashimiyu Adebayo Olaniyi presented his Letter of Credence to President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, this morning, at the President’s Office.
At the ceremony, the President welcomed the Ambassador to the Maldives and congratulated him on the commencement of his term as the Ambassador of Nigeria to the Maldives.
During the call, the President highlighted the strong partnership and good bilateral ties that exist between the Maldives and Nigeria. The President also noted that the Maldives and Nigeria share common views on an array of issues of mutual interest, specifically on the international arena, with maintaining the peace of the region and protecting the good name of Islam as a religion, stating that Islam is a religion of peace and co-existence.
Moreover, the President and the Nigerian Ambassador discussed ways of further strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries, and on exploring further areas of cooperation including the health sector and human resource development.
The Ambassador expressed his sincere gratitude for receiving him as the Ambassador of Nigeria to the Maldives, and conveyed greetings and well wishes from the President of Nigeria to the President and people of the Maldives. The Ambassador also expressed hope and confidence to continue working closely with the Maldives, and further consolidating the existing relations between the two countries.
The President was accompanied at the call by the Minister of State for Foreign Relations at the President’s Office, H.E. Mohamed Naseer and the Foreign Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Ahmed Sareer.
